At least 8 students died and several injured at the Moi Girls fire tragedy that took place on 1 September 2017.
Education CS Fred Matiangi said,""A fire broke out at the school at 2:00am in the morning in one of the dormitories. It is very, very sad."
On 4 September 2017, CS Matiagi said that the fire was not an accident but a case of arson. This is after the the police investigations were done.
The DNA of the girls who passed away in the fire tragedy is set to be done today, 5 September at the Chiromo Mortuary, Nairobi.
A mother who lost her daughter wrote an emotional tribute on her Facebook page:
"My Angel, My precious jewel, perfect gift sent from heaven and now taken back to heaven. I LOVE you, I TREASURE you, I MISS you. God gave me the best child, the most beautiful girl in the whole world, the most obedient, most loving, kind, caring................ I will forever cherish our moments together! Jey baby I shared my dreams with you, I mentioned to you all my heart desires but you know what my princess all those desires are now behind my back. I now have only ONE desire; TO GO TO HEAVEN because I know that's where you are and because I want to see you again, pray for me I come to heaven and reunite with you my only daughter. RIP my Princess till we meet again!"
