My son’s death was the darkest moment of my life- Juliana Kanyomozi

 The loss of her only child, Keron not only broke her heart, but that of her East African fans as well. Ugandan singer Juliana Kanyomozi spoke to CATE MUKEI and her smile still fades away when she talks about the death of her boy

The death of her only child saw her take impromptu retreat from work and the social scene and she says; “I’ve been through a lot. I’ve always been extremely strong. But this was beyond it. There are things that happen to you and you cannot find the perfect vocabulary to explain them. It’s that pain that leaves you helpless and no one else but God can help!” Juliana opened up a while back.

The sudden death affected the Ugandan fashion icon’s relationship with God.

“I was very angry with God. He had just taken away the most important thing I had in life. Then again, there’s always a reason for everything single thing. He does,” she said adding that she was not really in touch with the world at that moment.

“I can’t explain what was happening. I was lucky I had family and close friends with me and luckily they’ve never let me go since then,” she told The Nairobian.

This being the darkest moment of her life, so far, Juliana admits that she is having a hard time moving on despite her determination.

“I have my bad days where I sit with a box of tissue and let the tears flow. I don’t know how long it will take me to move on. It is something that will always be a part of me. I’m only being a strong woman,” she says.

“I don’t want to depress my fans. I want them to be happy. And that’s exactly what Keron would have wanted me to do,” she said admitting this was her second interview with the media since the death of her son.

“It is all part of the healing process. I’m taking baby steps. I’m not yet there emotionally. When you’ve gone through something like this, you have to find the strength first.”

As part of her triumphant come back, Juliana recorded a new song titled, Woman.

Juliana rose to fame in the late 1990s as one half of the all-girl duo I-Jay, with Iryn Namubiru.

The group’s single titled Vive la Vie was a popular record on Ugandan radio stations at that time. After the duo disbanded, Juliana launched a solo career.

At one time, Juliana hosted a morning radio programme on Capital FM in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
