Our etiquette distinguishes us from animals. It helps us stand apart from the crowd and leave a pleasant, everlasting impression. Here is office toilet etiquette that you need to observe and make your colleague’s time in the loo bearable:
Learn to share: The fact that you got in there before anyone else does not mean you have the right to stay there longer than necessary. Avoid taking phone calls while in the toilet.
It is also not polite to subject other people using the facility at the same time as you, to your phone conversations. Give them peace. Bodily functions are private, keep them that way.
Remember, this is not your personal bathroom: There is absolutely no reason for opting to do your personal grooming routine at work, when you can do it at home.
This is not the place to shave, cut nails or undo your hair, especially if the stalls are scarce. You should also not bring reading material with you into the bathroom.
Keep it fresh. Keep it clean: It goes without saying that the toilet freshener is there for a reason. But you should use it in moderation. It may smell nice, but no one wants a mouthful of freshener clapping them in the face as they enter the facility.
If you splash water all over the sink, clean it up. If you drop toilet paper on the floor, pick it up.
Wash your hands: There should never be any excuse for not washing your hands after using the bathroom. You will soon be shaking your boss’ hands or clients’ so to speak.
You do not want to go spreading germs to everyone you interact with.
