With hopes and dreams of becoming a classically trained French clown, Chip Baskets enrolls for a degree at a prestigious clowning college in Paris, France. But he fails to get the degree largely because of an impenetrable language barrier. Now he is stuck with a job as a local rodeo clown in his hometown of Bakersfield, California, with his twin brother Dale Baskets in the hope of keeping his dream of becoming a professional clown alive. But home is not always best for he has to confront his past with his increasingly present - and judgmental - family and compete with his siblings for his mother’s approval.
Thumbs Up
This comedy is different in the sense that it is the dark awkward kind of comedy and we see the return of the bearded, anti-social weirdo in stand-up comedy. The series also succeeds on the terrific cast more so Galifianakis’ persona that he has perfected in his Funny and Die videos and even got a Hollywood touch in Hangover. Its deadpan delivery is also worth noting.
Thumbs Down
The laugh out loud moments are few and far between and one may find its themes unpleasant and its weirdness more than some can take.
Verdict
Your enjoyment of this series largely depends on your opinion of Galifianakis’s sense of humour. It is an acquired taste
