Ituru Boys: Where Moses Kuria was bullied and expelled

News

Politician Moses Kuria

Ituru High is a boys’ boarding school in Ngenda, Gatundu South Constituency in Kiambu County. This Catholic sponsored school was established at the cusp of independence in 1963.

Among notable alumni of this school with scanty info, but who, nevertheless, were guided by its motto of ‘Strive to Excellence,’ are the fiery first-time legislator and controversial Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria.

This politician and former altar boy at Gatundu Catholic Church was expelled from Ituru High School where he has also claimed to have been bullied. He had to sit his final-year exams at Thika High School. The career banker holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi.

Others who wore green sweaters and white shirts include celebrated gospel musician Ben Githae. Nicknamed ‘ka-radio’ (small radio) for his penchant for singing, the Mabataro hit maker hardly explored singing at Ituru where he earned a C+ and had to contend with a job at his cucu’s posho mill.

Peter Kiguta, the first Director General for Trade and Customs in the East African Community is the other alumnus of Ituru from where he proceeded to UoN for his BA, Economics (1981) and then to Boston University for his MA, Economics Policy degree (1985).
