Former Mungiki leader Ndura Waruinge will launch a campaign aimed at reforming criminals in Nairobi. The first anti-crime drive will start in Njiru on August 9, where Ndura indicated that about 400 criminals will surrender and disown their bad ways.
The ex-Mungiki national coordinator turn pastor said he had the backing of government officials and fellow clergymen who will be in attendance to witness the youth denounce crime.
“As a former leader of Mungiki, I feel that if I don’t help these people (criminals) change their ways, I will not have done my part as per the calling I received from God when I got saved,” said Ndura.
Those targeted are Mungiki and Gaza members, as well as general criminals not affiliated to organised criminal gangs. It is believed that Njiru is home to dangerous criminals, some of whom are armed and ready for hire. Ndura said he was saddened by frequent fatal shootouts between criminals and security agents. He promised government support for those who will surrender and promise to embrace peace. The pastor said were it not for his bad past, he could be far ahead in terms of personal empowerment and development. —Hudson Gumbihi
