CSI: Crime Scene Investigation has been cancelled. The long-running police procedural drama - which has spawned multiple spin-offs - will officially end with a two-hour movie event on September 27, CBS announced today. The decision was announced at the annual CBS Upfronts event where each US network lays out its plans for the coming television season. The show used to be a ratings juggernaut, regularly bringing in ratings of 26 million viewers in America alone, though those figures are a distant memory. CBS network exec Kelly Kahl told the Telegraph: "It's easy to forget this was one of the strongest, longest-running dramas in TV history and really important to the network." Some of the show's original stars will return for the film with William Peterson and Marc Helgenberger already confirmed by the network. However, while CSI is coming to an end, the show's lead actor, Ted Danson, will transfer to the only current spin-off still on television. His character, DB Russell, will join the team on CSI: Cyber as a new series regular. CSI: Cyber will become the only remaining television show featuring the CSI universe on the air. CSI: Miami was cancelled in 2012, while CSI: New York ceased in 2013.
