You can now call him Dr Kanye West.

Everybody knows about Kanye West’s Graduation. It was the album that put him on the music map, but now the star has attended an actual graduation ceremony – his own.

The ‘College Dropout’ star can now be called Dr. Kanye West after receiving an honorary doctorate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago at its annual commencement on Monday.

While his wife Kim Kardashian is off in Brazil launching her latest collection, Kanye was wearing his cap and gown to pick up the honour from the school and was described as a 'powerhouse'.

Before he hit the stage to receive the honour, the audience was told: “Kanye believes it’s not about music but what you say in music. Using art as a vehicle he has become an art mogul."

Lisa Wainwright, who is the dean of faculty and vice president of academic administration at SAIC, was fascinated once she learned that Kanye had said he attended the school.

“I read it and thought, ‘Wow, this is a fantastic moment.’ Here is this major figure in the cultural landscape promoting art school, this guy from Chicago saying art school is cool.

"So we thought, ‘This man deserves an honorary doctorate from us!’ He should have gone here,” Wainwright, who reportedly sits on the committee that decides honorary degrees, said.

Kanye, who studied art at the American Academy of Art and also English at Chicago State University, has previously spoken about receiving the honour in a French magazine.

"I was a gifted artist since age 5 and won national competitions and went to art school," West, 37, said to the Clique.

"I'm actually getting an honorary doctorate in May from the Art Institute of Chicago."

His proud wife Kim tweeted: "Dr. Kanye West!!!!!!! I'm so proud of you baby & I know your mom would be so proud too!!!!"
