Wilson Sossion was a Teacher at Tenwek High

Few schools in Kenya enjoy the kind of cool climate that surrounds Tenwek High School in Tenwek, a town that should be every retiree’s dream: great weather, good infrastructure and the Tenwek Mission Hospital, which is the town’s main economic hub.

It is one of the most reliable hospitals in Bomet given that it draws patients from as far as Kisii, Nyamira and Kericho counties.

Tenwek High School was started in 1945 when missionaries from World Gospel arrived and set up an intermediary school. It was converted into a secondary school, where the first students were admitted in 1961, with E Gilger as the first principal. His tenure ended in 1968. It has since had eight other principals.

Presently, the African Gospel Church is the sponsor of the school, which explains their motto; ‘We trust in God’. To date, it remains a modest school and a regular top performer.

Notable alumni include Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, Turkana Governor Joseph Nanok, Hon Franklin Bett, former State House Comptroller and Bureti MP, Moi University’s Dean of Environmental Studies, Prof Wilson Yaban, Kenyatta University lecturer Dr Richard Kerich, former Trade Minister Dr Nehemiah Ng’eno, Dr Florentius Koech, a neurosurgeon at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and KNUT Secretary General, the combative Wilson Sossion who was  a chemistry teacher there before his entry into union politics.
