I did not take my pills : Singer Afroman apologises for punching female fan

Afroman has apologised for punching a female fan in a shocking on-stage attack which saw him arrested on Tuesday night, promising he is now checking into rehab.

The singer, known for his hit Because I Got High, was playing a guitar solo on stage in Biloxi, Mississippi, when a woman appeared from behind and started to dance with him.

The 40-year-old rapper was caught on video as he suddenly turned around and punched her in the face, slamming her to the ground.

Speaking live to TMZ tonight, he said: "I’m here to apologise. I need some help. I’m going to find a foundation.

He added: "I didn’t have time to medicate. It was an early show."

Explaining how he ended up feeling "frustrated" before the show even began, the singer said: "It was an early show, I usually play at night and I've had my dinner and I medicate, I get right... it was an early show, it was Mardi Gras, I had to walk like half a mile to get there, I had my frustrations to make a long story short."

Asked if it had ever happened before, Afroman even claimed this wasn't the first time it had happened, and said: "When I'm rapping I put my heart into it, whether people realise it or not, and I'm doing my job, and it irritates me when someone's main goal is to mess up what I'm doing.

"When I'm trying to make my bread and butter, when I'm trying to pay my taxes, I'm trying to pay my bills, I need a good show."

He added: "So I had this other guy do that in Cincinnati, and you know I...This is the second time this has happened, I'm gonna call a time out and I need to come up with a better plan."

He finished by saying: "I knew there was a problem, I mean this ain't right, I came to sing I didn't come to go to jail, I didn't come to hit a heckler, I need some anxiety management."

The Grammy-nominated musician's representative told Billboard magazine in a statement that the star had an "involuntary reflex reaction" and was surprised by the person onstage. He also blamed a lack of the security at the venue.
