The spat between the state and the religious leaders continued to widen as the Akorino church also weighed in.

The religious group condemned the government’s policies saying issues raised by the other religious leaders are genuine. They also urged the government to welcome criticism

“We stand in oneness and in entire unity with the entire body of Christ and the issues raised by the church. Firmly, we reiterate that the concerns raised by the Catholic Church and other churches are valid and genuine and they reflect the concerns of the citizens,” said Rev Prince Macharia, the Secretary general of the Akorino church Executive Council.

“The church in raising this concerns is not an enemy of the state or the government but we are doing this as a view of correcting our young brother, ’’added Macharia.

The church further said that the church should not be viewed as an enemy of the government.

The church further called on the government to listen to the needs of the people by initiating a multi-sectoral engagement forum.

“We request the president to reign in on some of his associates who are trying to advance the narrative that the church or certain bishops are against or fighting the government,” said Macharia.

They also urged religious leaders to take the lead in quelling the rising tension and anxiety in the nation.

“We shall be calling for a national day of prayer in a few days,” he said.
