A viral video of a man showing raw human waste emptying into Nairobi River at Njiru area has caught the attention of Governor Johnson Sakaja.
On Friday afternoon, the governor visited the scene to assess the situation and how the problem can be contained.
In the video that elicited an outcry from the public, a resident claimed that the county government had not responded for several months despite promises to do so.
And during his inspection tour, the governor blamed illegal farming for the sewerage.
"Farmers infiltrate the sewer, blocking it so as to use the spillage on their farms. Our engineers are unblocking the sewer line and we will deal with those perpetrating the illegality," said Sakaja on his Twitter handle.
He explained that the source of raw human waste was an old trunk sewer that has for decades been used by residents to cross the river.
"My engineers have designed an alternative footbridge that pedestrians and bikes will be using," he added.
