On October 5, Africa witnessed the launch of the biggest reality show, Big Brother Africa.
The Nairobian team, which couldn’t miss the action, had a fabulous time at the Garden Court Hotel at Sandton City, Johannesburg, where various African journalists were putting up courtesy of MultiChoice Africa.
Unlike previous seasons, when Biggie revealed the location of the house, this time round it was kept top secret.
Even some MultiChoice employees had no clue.
The contestants were expected to entertain the audience with their best talents, before being rated by those in attendance.
Our very own Sabina won many hearts with her comical “motorbike man” skit, putting her in position two. She scored 78.3 per cent.
Whoever advised Melvin Alusa to ride on Sauti Sol’s fame, by preforming Sura Yako, did him a lot of justice. Damn! This guy can sing! He managed a score of 61.8 per cent. For those who don’t know, Melvin is the brother to Sauti Sol’s Bien Aime.
Upon getting into the house, Sabina could not hide her joy when she was ushered in to many champagne bottles.
Clearly, our girl has a ‘sweet tongue’ for alcohol.
The first week has been tough for some of the housemates.
Ghana’s Kacey Moore could not pull himself out of a slump, and Sabina tried to coax him into telling her what was wrong.
He opened up, admitting he missed his family. She comforted him with her own rendition of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” inserting his child’s name into the song.
Sabina astounded everyone with her voice, and Kacey Moore joined her, playing a slow, sad tune on his guitar.
We can only hope that he gets his groove back. This is the third time that Kenya has strong representation in the show.
The closest we came to winning was with Prezzo and Sheila Kwamboka.
With the talented Sabina and Melvin, who can switch from singing to acting, we may just bring the Sh26.7 million cash prize home.
