Movie review: All About Last Night

Movie Buffs
movie review: all about last night It's  must-watch for comedy lovers   PHOTO:COURTESY

Director: Steve Pink.

Cast: Kevin Hart, Regina Hall,

Michael Ealy and Joy Bryant.

Genre: Comedy/Romance.

Run Time: 1hr and 40 mins.

Verdict: 7/10.

For a long time now classic RomComs (Romantic Comedies) that are actually funny and devoid of gross humour have been a rarity. There has been a dry spell in the RomCom department and for a while, it seemed memorable RomComs like Pretty woman, Crocodile Dundee, 10 things I hate about you, Best Man, Sleepless in Seattle, Bridget Jones Diary, When Harry Met Sally, were extinct but this new film About Last Night could be the unlikely saviour for the genre.

The film tells the story of a group of friends who fall in love with one another. Kevin Hart plays Bernie, a guy who has just begun a relationship with Joan (Regina Hall). They each invite a friend along on one of their dates, and the pals, Danny (Michael Ealy) and Debbie (Joy Bryant), end up hitting it off.

Danny has some issues, though; he is still reeling from a devastating break up with his ex, Alison (Paula Patton), and is reluctant to get into something serious. He, nevertheless, quickly finds himself in a relationship with Debbie and we get to watch as they go through the ups and downs of being a new couple. Meanwhile, Bernie and Joan break up, only to continue fighting every time they see each other, which is frequently since their best friends are dating. About Last Night is about two people who love each other dearly, but do not know how to communicate.

Thumbs Up

It remembers to be funny; it has some memorable humorous genius moments that will have you talking long after you leave the cinema hall. The cast is also the films biggest selling point, the have the necessary chemistry and they all bring their A- game to the screen. While Michael Ealy and Joy Bryant create a believable romance that will have the audience routing for them, Kevin Hart and Regina Hall are the perfect comedic duo.

Thumbs Down

It occasionally suffers from a messy storytelling; it feels scattered. Further some of the problems faced by Danny and Debbie arise out of nowhere and seem to be thrown in just to move the story along.

Verdict

A must-watch for anyone over the age of 18.
