Social Media abuzz over 'Virgin Mary sighting' in Subukia, Nakuru

Blame social media! This time round a video has gone viral.

The sightings of Virgin Mary, Jesus and other religious symbols are common place all around the world. From crying statue of Virgin Mary, a face of Jesus on a fish stick to the cross shaped colors on cows, there has been no shortage of sightings for the believers.

This time though, the claims were brought closer home with a video of Virgin Mary appearing in Subukia, Nakuru!

In a video going around social media pages, the apparition of Virgin Mary seems to hover on the sky in an amateur video.

Some Kenyans have even claimed to have been present at the time, going as far as declaring that it happened on Sunday, 9th November!

Since the locals claim the sighting was at a shrine in Subukia, we contacted the Village of Mary, Mother of God, a popular shrine in Subukia. It has a statue of Mary and a miraculous spring of water where believers visit from all walks of life to experience the shrine.

On a phone call interview to the Shrine’s director, Father James Wanzala, we were informed that they did not receive any news of the sighting on the said day.

“We had a Catholic Men Association gathering over the weekend and there were many people here. There was however no sighting or reports of a sighting,” Father James said.

Asked if he had seen the video doing the rounds, the Father James chuckled to the affirmative.

“Yes. I have seen the video and I can assure you that it did not happen in this shrine. I even doubt it is from Kenya,” he adds.

Were there any sighting reported to them from Subukia on other occasions?

“There have been various versions of sightings on the Subukia Shrine hill, where there is the statue of Mary, but I have not personally experienced it,” the Father concludes.

So what is the video all about?

Turns out that the video is not a recent recording. It has been doing rounds on the internet for over 3 years.

The original upload was meant to “uncover the fallacy that is Christianity….”calling it Project Blue Beam, a conspiracy theory. The theory claims that National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is trying to create a New Age religion. The long and short of it is that by use of technology, NASA will be able to simulate a Second Coming and start a New World Order.

Whether these sightings are real or not continues to be a mystery as reports of sightings continue to stream in from all parts of the world.
