The robust and enterprising Maurice Okoth Mwande has finally succumbed to the allures of his love Shamillah Khadija Kiptoo and will be tying the knot in a small private Wedding at the poolside of his leafy surburban home in Nairobi this weekend.
The social scene has been awash with talks of the two lovebirds taking it to the aisle and it has only been a matter of time that they announced their commitment to each other.
“I have got myself a silver ring to match the white Gold wedding band,” announced an excited Okoth who from today becomes Mahmoud Okoth after converting to Islam at the Kilimani Mosque at the Department of Defense.
Okoth says it was a small sacrifice to make for the sassy Khadija to rescind his Christianity because “I truly love her.”
Tomorrow he will be traveling to meeting Shamilla’s parents to ask for their hand in marriage.
Okoth has seen steady rise of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya from a few hundred thousand shillings to Sh 600M-turnover-a-year Company.
Today musicians can smile all the way to the bank every July as the MCSAK award them royalties.
And with his marriage Okoth believes he will be a settled man who can even steer better the company to greater heights.
“We have at the moment just scratched the surface at 10 per cent of the market,” says Okoth who envisages a promising future for musicians in Kenya.
