A chef has revealed her incredibly simple method for cutting an onion - and lots of people have been doing it wrong. TikTok star Poppy O'Toole, who is more commonly known as PoppyCooks, shared the video on her account claiming it would "change your life."

She added: "This is one of the first techniques you learn when becoming a chef."

Firstly, you cut the top off your onion and peel the skin off. Poppy recommends chopping it horizontally first, in order to maintain a straighter cut.

Be sure to keep the root intact as you slice three or four times. Then cut it six times vertically but again keep the root intact, before beginning to chop.

Use your knuckle as a protector as you cut toward the root - and you'll be left with perfectly cubed chunks of onion.
