Ten-year-old Kampa shock veterans to win in Nyali

 Diamond Leisure Resort's youthful Golfer Lucas Kampa sends his winning drive to the 11th greens during the KAHC Annual Golf tournament at Nyali Golf and Country club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.[Maarufu Mohamed,Standard].

It was a great surprise as a Ten year old boy beat Veterans and Senior Golfers in this year's Annual Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and Caterers (KAHC) golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

The Diamond Leisure Golf Resort Club's Lucas Kampa from Diani in South Coast of Mombasa, Kwale County came ,determined and conquered the Nyali Course leaving the usual Golfers in great disbelief.

Kampa playing off handicap 24 played 21 and 23 points in both nines for an excellent score of 44 stableford points to emerge the overall winner, beating a team of 156 golfers in the day long 18 holes tournament.

The boy's victory came after registering a rare birdie at the par four-hole seven, with additional seven level pars against mixed bogey shots in the rest of the holes to be crowned the leader of the day.

Young and short as he appeared on the podium to present his winning speech, the confident Kampa said "I have not been playing good golf of recent due to studies but today I really played my best and very happy for the win. The course was playing well and I would like to thank the Club's green Keeper, and the sponsors for making this day excellent."

The Charity event organized by KAHC after their two days 19th Annual Symposium and Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Sarova white sands Beach Resort and Spa in Mombasa to support the Coast Hospice and Nairobi Hospice, brought golfers from the home club , others around the Coast Golf Clubs and across the Country with Guests, Sponsors and staffs with valid handicaps.

It was jointly sponsored by Kenya Tourism fund under their Magical Kenya brand, DSTV Business, Brookside Dairy, Safaricom, Kenya Tourism Board, Archipelago (Hotel group from Indonesia), APA Insurance, Kenya Wildlife Services, Ihti, and Kenya Development Corporation.

William Kaguta playing off handicap 1 was the gross winner on six over par 77 gross while handicap 26 Justin Kaburu with 40 points and handicap 13 Simon Karemu on 39 points were the Men winner and runners up respectively.

The on form recently crowned Kambasome Queen,Kalee Ndunda playing off handicap 20 managed 36 points from 23 and 13 points in both nines to emerge the Lady winner.

Handicap 21 John Middleton on 38 points was the best senior and the Best Junior prize was awarded to handicap 22 Shay Chauhan after returning 38 points.

The KAHC member winner on 39 points was scooped by handicap 23 Rose Musau and the Best guest with 38 points was claimed by handicap 25 Zhan Huantai.

Dedan Ondiek playing off handicap 29 carded 40 points to win the best high handicappers prize for Men and the same for Lady was grabbed by handicap 41 Tabitha Mayende who had a score of 38 points.

Handicap 26 Areba Samba was a happy man after his 13 points from 5 and 8 points was recognized for the Best effort prize while handicap 27 Dan Mugambi on 22 points was the Best first nine winner and the Best second nine winner prize was claimed by handicap 28 Rose Njogu who had a count back score of 22 points.

KAHC Chief Executive Officer Mike Macharia thanked the Club for hosting the successful tourney and also appreciated golfers for turning up large numbers and the Sponsors for their support promising that the Charity golf tournament that was started some 20 years ago will continue to feature in their Calendar.

At Kericho Golf Club in the same day, handicap Frank Koko carded 46 points to emerge the overall winner of the Club's Chairman's (Parminder Hunjan) golf tournament while handicap 12 Dalveer Hunjan brought a count back score of 40 points to win the Men's prize and handicap 24 Elizabeth Ngeny was the Lady winner on a count back score of 34 points.

The Division a winner was Job Kaibei on 39 points and Collins Kipkuri with a count back score of 37 points was the runners up after tying on the same score with Tej bachu who settled for the third slot.

Dominc Rono playing off handicap 13 carded 40 points to win the B division while handicap 19 Anthony Korir on 39 points and handicap 20 David Korir with 37 points were the runners up and third placed respectively.

Division C was won by handicap 51 Faith Nzomo who returned a score of 44 points, four points ahead of runners up placed handicap 35 Daniel Kigen and handicap 38 Kipkurui was third on 36 points.

And at the Kenya Railways Golf Club in Nairobi, handicap 9 George Wakaba was the man of the day after emerging the overall winner on 39 points in the Bima golf day tournament powered by Prudential and LiB.

The Men winner's prize was claimed handicap 20 Dr. Patrick Karani who returned a score of 38 points while handicap 12 Nathan Njuguna on a count back score of 37 points was the runners up after tying on the same score with third placed handicap 6 Edward Manywanda and handicap 2 Fidhelis Kiamanzi scooped the Gross title on 75 gross.

Alice Mwangi playing off handicap 28 beat the Ladies to emerge the winner with 33 points but surviving on count back after tying on the same score with runners up placed handicap 21 Millicent Mello.

The senior prize on 35 points was won by handicap 10 Timothy Ruhio who a score of 35 points and handicap 22 Semenye Jimmy was the junior with his 28 points beating handicap 28 Joshua Semenye to the runners up slot by a single point.

Mpoika Nkoiti playing off handicap 26 carded 32 points to win he Sponsor's guest prize for men and the same for Lady was scooped by handicap 20 Eunice Kinungi on 26 points.
