In November last year, chaos erupted at an ODM rally in Homa Bay on as Kaluma was beaten by businessman Washingtone Ogaga who was planning to battle with Kaluma for Homa Bay Town parliamentary seat.
The two politicians had started exchanging words on the podium and when push came to shove, a shouting match ensued before it turned physical.
Other politicians who had to take their heels in the ensuing melee included former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma.
Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga rushed to calm the situation, but she was stoned and disappeared before Raila calmed the rowdy youths and the rally continued.
County police boss John Omusanga said “It is true there was violence during the ODM rally but until a formal is made and statements recorded, then we are unable to act.” The MP said he had not received the summons and brushed it off, saying the incident was political.
He argued that he was the one who was beaten up and therefore does not need to record any statements with police because this issue is political,” said Kaluma.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) reprimanded and fined Kaluma and Ogaga Sh100, 000 each, following the chaotic disturbance during the rally.
