Our marriage ‘was a sham devoid of love and affection’- Celebrated entrepreneur Eva Muraya

 Machua Koinange and Eva Muraya

Celebrated serial entrepreneur Eva Muraya is facing divorce proceedings from her estranged husband.

Machua Koinange, the director of communications at a local university, filed for divorce two years ago citing emotional and mental cruelty, but the case has dragged on for two years.

The couple has been separated since January 2016, four years after getting married at the Jockey Club in December 2012.

In his divorce papers, Machua states that he had three children from a previous relationship by the time he was getting married to while Eva, who had two children.

Matters came to a head in December 2015 when Eva reportedly arranged a secret holiday with her daughters, excluding Machua and his children.

Machua, in his affidavit, further states that his wife exhibited a very short temper towards him and it was common for her to express herself by “snapping in anger, hostile glares and gazes and inexplicable silence.” On meeting friends at church, his wife, he claims, created the impression of a happy marriage which was not the case.

He also accuses her of displaying a photo of her and her late husband kissing during their wedding in the sitting room.

In her replying affidavit, Eva states that she felt trapped in the union without companionship and in which she states that Machua “merely married her with a view of enriching himself by accessing her investments” and using her connections and networks besides “fleecing her” and exploiting her extended family, a situation that left her with huge liabilities.

She also accuses Machua of failing to maintain her and the children and fronting himself as her late husband’s business associate.

Eva, who is seeking alimony in her petition, further states that she suffered “psychological cruelty” and that their marriage “was a sham devoid of love and affection” and that “it had irretrievably broken down and there is no chance of mending the same.”

Eva denies refusing to see a marriage counsellor as there was no opportunity as Machua had deserted their matrimonial home.
