A court has sentenced a man to two years in jail for selling rotten meat to his customers.
The man, identified as Bernard Kiragu, was accused of selling rotten meat to his customers on May 5, 2017 at Gikambura. Kiragu who operates a butchery at Gikambura trading centre, is said to have been selling rotten meat to area residents and was nabbed by public health officers after the residents lodged a complaint.
The residents started suspecting that the meat was in bad state due to a foul smell that emanated from the butchery. Officers who visited his butcher recovered rotten meat. The butcher was also charged with selling food without a medical certificate and for selling food in an unhygienic environment.
He pleaded guilty to the charges.
