The Kenyatta’s-Like father like son: The apple fell under the tree

Jomo Kenyatta with son Uhuru Kenyatta

To understand Uhuru, you just have to listen at that speech that his father gave in Kisumu during the opening of the provincial hospital back in 1969. That day, Raila's father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga was in the venue and this got messy and people died.

Here are some of the statement from the old Jomo:

"Asante ya punda ni mateke, vinyangarika wa KPU, nani anatawala?" (A donkey's gratitude is in its kick, to the idiots of KPU, who is the boss?"

"Wakileta nyokonyoko sisi tutawaonyesha Kenya iko na serikali yake" (If they try their little games, we will show them that Kenya has a government)

"Hatuwezi kuchezewa sisi" (Don't mess with us!)

"Wakanye hawa watu wako, kama si hivyo wataona cha mtema kuni, na mimi sina machezo hata kidogo" (Tell your people to stop, or else, I will teach them a lesson. I don't fool around)

"Kitu gani wanafanya, makelele tupu, kama punda anavyolia msituni" (What are they doing, making noise like a donkey in the wilderness)

"Baada ya kupayukapayuka nenda fundisha watu wako kulima mashamba yao" (Instead of making noise, go and teach your people how to till their land)

"Kama ingekuwa wewe ni mtu haupendi ujinga, ungesimama na kusema ile nasema ni kweli" (if you were a person who doesn't like stupidity, you'd stand here and back me up"

And yes, there were insults that even we cannot publish.

But as Mariana Saraiva writes, “Insults strike directly at a persons feelings, self-estem, peride, identity and ego. So no matter why an insult happens or how it happens, or when it happens, the truth of the matter is it will leave a scar.
