Officers from the Kenya Police living at East Capital apartments along Nairobi’s Kangundo Road want to displace their counterparts from the Administration Police (AP) and other divisions.
This came in the wake of an expose by The Nairobian a fortnight ago about how some senior officers rent out the Sh2.5 billion National Police Service houses to girlfriends and outsiders.
The houses are meant for constables and senior cops. Further, the senior cops were said to be clinging to the houses even after being transferred instead of leaving them for other deserving cops.
It has since emerged that some Kenya Police officers are turning the heat on APs in an attempt to eject them forcefully, claiming that “officers from Kenya Police ought to live here alone,” an AP officer manning the sub-county headquarters told The Nairobian.
“Initially, APs and the Kenya Police were supposed to share houses, but there is heightened hostility now, even parking has been marked in attempt to push us out,” he said.
The over 300 modern units, ranging from three to four bedroom houses, were expected to host regular, CID and AP officers.
The apartments are said to have cost the State more than Sh2 billion in 2012 when they were bought to ease the housing crisis in the police service. The APs claim that efforts to reach their seniors over the matter have not been successful.
“If nothing is done now, the situation could turn ugly or even the two camps could end up in a serious fight that could lead to loss of lives,” another police source told The Nairobain, adding that, “Our bosses know that we are suffering here, but our patience will be stretched to the limit soon.”
