A city court was left in stitches when a man facing robbery with violence charges demanded to know why police shaved his dreadlocks.

Bernard Mungai (pictured), who was charged alongside Collins Oduor, Patrick Waweru and John Kioko, asked the court to summon the officers to explain to him why he had to lose his 12-year-old dreadlocks.

It is alleged that on December 5, around 10pm, the four forcefully robbed William Aseka of Sh13,000, a national identity card and ATM card in Huruma.

According to police, Aseka was heading home on a boda boda when he came across a roadblock erected by the suspects. The court heard that the suspects and others not in court emerged from hiding and pounced on the complainant.

The prosecution said seven men beat up the complainant and his rider before fleeing.

The two rushed to a nearby police station and reported the matter. It is then that police accompanied them to the scene using another motorbike posing as passengers.

The court heard that the officers arrived at the scene where they found the suspects manning their small roadblock. The same men emerged from the bush unaware that they were about to rough up police officers. Four suspects were arrested as others fled.

The suspects denied the charges and were released on Sh500,000 bond each.

The case will be heard in May next year when an investigation officer will be required to explain the allegations made by Mungai.
