You will fork out Sh50,000 should you fail to observe traffic lights or disregard designated pedestrian crossing sections, popularly known as Zebra Crossing, on Nairobi roads.
Viwandani MCA Samuel Nyangwara want motorists and pedestrians who ignore the designated crossing points, directional signs and traffic lights, to be penalised heavily, and the amount of fine doubled in the case of repeat offenders.
The proposed law under the county’s Public Nuisance Act targets mainly matatu operators who are notorious for jumping traffic lights and failing to slow down for pedestrians using Zebra Crossings.
“A person who fails to comply with this order shall be punishable with a fine not exceeding Sh50,000,” said Nyangwara.
His proposal also targets the keeping of pets. He recommends that apart from residents housing lizards, those keeping domesticated animals, game animals or reptiles without permit from City Hall be penalised with hefty fines.
