Faith Evangelistic Ministries (FEM) has opened an ultra-modern sanctuary in Karen.

The new sanctuary overshadows the Winners Chapel auditorium described as the largest in the East African region.

The FEM sanctuary, now the largest in Eastern and Central Africa, was put up at a cost of Sh1 billion funded by Ezra Project. Construction began on January 2010 after the foundation was laid on November 15, 2009.

Awed by the sanctuary, President Uhuru Kenyatta said it was the best, magnificent church he has ever seen. Uhuru even promised to partner with the church in reinforcing their health services projects.

“We will continue to partner with you as you do your various clinics in Nairobi and across the country,” said the president when he attended the grand opening of the church on August 14.

Evangelist Teresia Wairimu who is the president and founder of FEM said no harambee was conducted to raise money for the multi-storey building with a capacity to accommodate about 700 vehicles and over 8, 000 people when fully completed.

Ezra Project that largely funded the construction is a tax exempt, non-profit corporation based in Colorado, USA focusing on connection of God’s people to the teachings of the Bible.

President Uhuru commended Wairimu’s work, saying she has saved the lives of many who would have been lost. Also in attendance were Deputy President’s wife Rachel Ruto, internationally renowned evangelist Reinhard Bonnke and renowned author and speaker Dr Mike Murdock.

Zhongxing Construction Company limited built the church, which also has rooms for mothers to nurse their babies, a hotel, changing rooms, offices, a library, a dispensary and lounges.

“Were it not for the selflessness of both the FEM partners and FEM church family, such progress would not have been possible. Through their contributions, they provided the funds required to initialise and perpetuate this project. The church has not held any fundraisers or harambees,” said Evangelist Wairimu.

Wairimu has run the ministry for the last 18 years and has expanded to America and Europe, where she has branches in USA and United Kingdom.

The event coincided with a visit to State House Primary School by Wairimu on August 14, 2014 that Uhuru attended, as they worshipped together with other faithful.
