Another extra-judicial murder was the gruesome case of Kimani Ruo, a high ranking member of the Mungiki sect.

Ruo was picked from the Nairobi Law courts after a mention of a case where he jointly faced charges with Maina Njenga. Ruo was sandwiched between two police officers, and his mobile phone confiscated. Police officers drove him past Karen to Bulbul Shopping Centre and diverted into a forest where they drove for two kilometers. "Upon arrival in the bush, interrogation of the suspects began which meant beating them with clubs. One police officer, an inspector, was recording the entire conversation using a small tape recorder," Kirinya said.

After severe beatings, Ruo fainted and the police officers let him regain strength as they went for nyama choma for lunch. They brought Ruo drinking water. Thereafter, they took turns at eating the meat, and beating Ruo. When the tormentors called their boss, the PPO (Provincial Police Officer) and replayed the recording of Ruo's confessions, the PPO laughed and said, 'Kazi iendelee namna hiyo'.

Ruo was then beaten until 6.30 pm when the officers decided to stop and wait to see if news of Ruo's arrest and disappearance will be aired by any television. The officers spent the entire night in the forest and left at 5.00 in the morning after confirming the newspapers didn't carry stories of Ruo's disappearance. The locked him in the boot of a police car until 5.30 in the evening waiting for news, but no media outlet reported Ruo's disappearance.

At 10pm, the police drove Ruo five kilometres inside the Kenyatta family farm in Njiru. A police inspector said, "Beba vyombo vya kazi," recalled Kirinya who saw fellow officers carrying pangas, rungus and ropes. Ruo was tied from the back and strangled. "They then started hacking him with pangas and hitting him with rungus. They disfigured his face so that nobody would recognize his body. We left the scene at 12.30am."

The next day, the officers were rewarded with Sh2, 000 as a token of appreciation from their bosses.
