Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana slammed leaders who arrived late at a burial aboard choppers disrupting the funeral service in the process.
The Independent Party leader Kalembe Ndile, Machakos County Chief of Staff Mwengi Mutuse and URP Secretary General Fred Muteti, according to Kibwana, showed utter disrespect and contempt for the bereaved family of the late Masongaleni Ward Rep John Kilonzo by arriving late in a choreographed “attention-seeking expedition” and leaving before the ceremony ended.
Kilonzo was found dead in a hotel room in Mtito Andei town. The Nairobian contacted the leaders who insisted they did nothing wrong despite arriving when the sermon was being delivered. “The family has not complained,” Muteti said. “We were not attending Kibwana’s function. He is just jealous and shocked that young people like us can afford a chopper,” he added.
Muteti added amidst hearty laughter that: “Instead of the governor feeling happy that his people can now afford a chopper, he is bitter. Such people who worship poverty are surprised that ‘poor boys’ of yesterday (sic) like me, who went to village schools are now living large. A chopper is just another means of transportation,” added Muteti.
Ndile said they had earlier attended another event at Kyemole. “We arrived at 2.30pm which is not late and left at 5.30 pm because choppers don’t fly at night. It was nothing political or attention seeking,” said Ndile.
