A city court was left in shock after a suspect claimed that only city televangelist Edward Mwai could save him and his family from demons.
The suspect identified as David Maina will however remain in custody for two weeks for being in possession of bhang.
Maina who was arrested by police on September 26 with the banned substance claimed he was on his way to Jesus Winner Ministry Church which is headed by Pastor Edward Mwai.
Maina was allegedly found in possession of five rolls of bhang valued at Sh50.
The prosecution said that Maina was arrested by police on patrol after he appeared suspicious and attempted to run when he saw the officers.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charges, saying that he has been smoking bhang for sometime now following the death of his relatives.
“Many of my relatives have died, but it is the death of my grandmother that pushed to start smoking bhang to cope with the lose,” he told the court.
He went on to say that: “Following the deaths, demons have been following me and my relatives forcing me to smoke. In fact, I was going to Pastor Mwai’s church so he could liberate me and my family from demons. He is the only one who can manage that.”
Maina will remain in custody until October 12 as police continue investigations on his claims that his relatives had died.
