Catherine Muthoni, 20, the Korogocho woman who killed and ate her son’s body parts will undergo psychological analysis to establish the state of her mental health at Mathari Hospital for one month.
The court arrived at the decision after the accused, who was appearing for the second time, showed difficulty in explaining herself.
The court had earlier ordered that she be taken to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Kayole on February 19, as police carried further investigations. This was after she appeared weak and unable to talk or walk without support.
The doctors at Mama Lucy said Muthoni, who would whisper and use strange terms to communicate, needed further mental check-up.
Muthoni also killed two children belonging to her close friend, Nelius Muthoni. She committed the crimes on February 17, leaving neighbours, who linked her bizarre acts to religious cult, stunned.
Initially, she had attempted to strangle her aunt following a disagreements with her husband. When the middle-aged aunt sneaked out of the house, Muthoni reportedly turned to her son who was a sleep, slit his belly with kitchen knife and ate his intestines and heart before drinking his blood.
The suspect would later shock police who saved her from a mob determined to lynch her when she asked for a soda. She is expected to take a plea after leaving the hospital on March 23.
