Nyamira County Government has promoted all its doctors in a bargaining agreement signed with the Doctors Union on Wednesday afternoon.
As a result, the medics have called off their strike after downing their tools for nine days.
Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists' Union had on September 4, 2023 issued a 21 days strike notice.
Since then, KMPDU and the County Government have been involved in negotiations over the strike notice culminating in an agreement to call off the industrial action today.
In the agreement seen by The Standard, all the 26 Doctors in the County will be placed in Job Group P up from N.
The agreement says; "The County Public Service Board shall advertise, shortlist, interview and promote Doctors within the competitive Job Groups Q, R and within five weeks in accordance with the Doctors' schemes of service."
The County Public Service Board will also confirm six Doctors on probation within ten working days from the date of signing the agreement; October 18, 2023.
The Board will also promote two doctors in the County from Job Group M to N within ten days.
"The County Government commits to fast track the audit of the payroll within 30 days and resumes unsecured check-off credit facilities thereafter," reads part of the bargaining agreement.
The agreement signed by the Union's Nyanza Secretary General Dr Aggrey Orwenyo, County Secretary Dr Jack Magara, Board Chair Dr Peter Kereri, Chief Officer Medical Service Andrew Ongere says no Doctor will be victimized for having participated in the industrial action.
Union members have been advised to return to work within 24 hours.
