Benga musician Ken wa Maria who was arrested on December 16 after leading a protest caravan against Governor Alfred Mutua has said he has no political ambitions.
The musician claims he had been hired to perform and pull crowds at the Okoa Machakos Forum roadshow.
“I was hired as an artiste by Joseph Mathoke to attract crowds. I was shocked when the police arrested me and the rest of the roadshow crew,” he stated. The musician also cleared the air about his latest hit, Mwanake wi wa Sinema, which was alleged to be an attack on Mutua.
“It is not directed at Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua, but is a diss track for an artiste who I will not mention,” he added.
Wa Maria, who is popularly known as Mutongoi, is part of Machawood Board of Governors. He claimed the rumours stem from his popularity in the region.
“I am an entertainer. I work with anyone despite their political affiliation. If Raila or Uhuru call me today, I wouldn’t turn them down. I am not interested in politics. I have cars to sell and a production company to run. I wonder where I would get the time for politics and other sideshows,” wa Maria said, adding that there was no bad blood between him and Mutua.
