People with dry skin are known to suffer more with fine lines and wrinkles even at a very early age.
CAUSES AND HOW TO TREAT DRY SKIN
Dehydration -Do you take enough water every day? Atleast try and drink enough water 6/8 glasses a day. That is enough for the body. You don’t need to overload yourself with too much water and we are not talking of cupfuls, we are talking of litres 3/4litres of water everyday. If you take too much than what your body can take you will suffer from HYPERHYDRATION and you don’t want that.
So,take only what your body need 6/8 glasses a day. Our bodies are made of 70 percent water which keep our cells plump and healthy. Another thing, it will depend on the environment you are in. If you do lots of workout, the more water you will need since you are sweating a lot otherwise if you sweat a lot and you don’t take water to replace the sweat, the more you will be dehydrated.
Harsh detergents - Most deodorant soaps contain detergents that remove natural oils leaving your skin dry and after sometime, it flakes out. For your own good, use gloves whenever you are using harsh detergents to protect your skin. Load your skin with rich moisturiser. Glycerin is best - it will leave your skin with lots of moisture.
Skipping lotion – I have heard it especially on a cold weather that its not necessary to moisturise our skin since we are fully covered with clothes. That’s the beginning of having flaky and itchy skin. Your skin needs to be moisturised 24/7 day and night. Remember our skin is active during sleep - it repairs itself and produces new cells at a faster rate than when we are awake so help it by feeding it with a moisturiser and believe me you will always have that glow, smooth and velvet feeling on your skin. Be faithful to your moisturiser day and night. Atleast, in every lotion you purchase take a minute and confirm it has ingredients like GLYCERIN which will lock in moisture in your skin and fight dehydration too.
Sunscreen - is a must have especially to people with DRY SKIN. The last thing you want is to expose your skin to the sun- always protect it by applying sunscreen. It will protect you from the sun.
Long hot showers- On your shoulders and neck it helps relieve stiffness and tension if you had a very rough day. But it shouldn’t exceed more than 3 minutes. Remember hot showers open pores too, so it is easy to get infections and bacterias especially in public places like gyms and hotels. Hot showers will strip your natural oils away leaving you looking like an alligator. So, turn the knob and use cool water to close back the pores, adjust the knob again to continue enjoying your shower with warm water.
Diet - Go for vitamin C and E. Fish contains omega 3 fatty acids which helps your skin hold moisture for a more youthful appearance. Fish should be in your menu almost through out the week. FRUITS - Mango, Papaya and Berries will keep your skin hydrated and youthful. Antioxidant-rich fruits like Berries fight free radicals so incase you forget your sunscreen, know berries got your back for the day. Let’s not forget citrus - it will help your skin produce collagen. Avocado is rich in vitamin E which keeps the skin moist and fights free radicals to prevent pre-mature aging. Avocado is high in Oleic acid, which maintains the moisture in the Epidermal layer of skin leaving your body feeling soft and hydrated.
Now you know you don’t have to spend a leg and an arm to have a healthy ,smooth, glowing skin. All you need is to follow the instructions above and be consistent with your moisturiser and take enough water.
