When young people realize they are pregnant they seem to get surprised of the outcome. This is because some of them think that they were just playing and they did not engage in serious sex, or full penetration which will make them pregnant.

Well, you can get pregnant even if it were not a full penetration. Pregnancy happens when a man’s sperms fertilizes a woman’s egg. Sperms tend to be very first and when a man ejaculates, during sex, whether full penetration or not, semen travels from the man’s penis to the woman’s vagina. Then travels through her cervix and womb to the fallopian tubes, where an egg is fertilized (conception). The egg can be fertilized by sperm contained in semen or pre-ejaculate.

This is precisely why you will get pregnant weather it was a full penetration or not, provided the penis got into contact with a woman’s vagina.

It is also possible to get pregnant without having sex, if for example your partner ejaculates around your vagina. Although, this possibilities are very low because sperm can only live for a short time outside the body.

The next time you are experimenting on sex be careful, unless if you want to get pregnant. The only way to avoid unwanted pregnancies is by using contraceptives and condoms. Always remember that it is only condom that can protect you from both pregnancies and STI’s.
