Veteran Tanzanian singer Mr Nice has weighed in on the ban of 13 songs by President John Magufuli’s government for contravening the country’s norms and values.

Speaking to a local radio station in Tanzania, Mr Nice said that it was right for the government to institute the ban for the songs that had lewd content.

He added that it was better for the 13 to be banned including Diamond’s Hallelujah and Waka Waka than for them to spoil the broth for the rest of the artists who were producing clean content.

“Unajua vijana, watoto wadogo ndio wanapenda zaidi muziki sasa hivi, mimi kama msanii nikiimba kitu ambacho hakina maana, mantiki, adabu ni vibaya,

“Serikali inaona ni ajira yako lakini isifike maali ukachafua watu wengine, ni afadhali wewe samaki mmoja ukatupwa wengine waendelee kuchanua, sio wote waonekana wameoza,” said Mr Nice.

Diamond’s Hellelujah featuring Morgan Heritage and Waka Waka featuring rapper Rick Ross were among the songs flagged down by the Tanzanian Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) for containing illicit content that violates Tanzania’s code of conduct.

In response the singer’s management stated that all songs produced by Wasafi are vetted before being released to the masses. They added that they had not received any notice of the ban.
