Congolese legend General Defao is probably the face of bleaching gone terribly wrong.
In a recent picture with Kanda King, the 57-year-old singer’s face had taken to a white pasty hue that was made worse by his aging skin.
The fans were shocked to see his face since Defao had been underground for quite a while. Only to appear with a 'different' face. Bleaching is common place in Congo, but perhaps the extent to how far you can bleach has not been communicated to them.

Defao, born Matumona Defao Lulendo, was instrumental in the rise of Rumba music. His talent put him in the same league as Koffi Olomide and Papa Wemba. He credits Rumba maestro Tabu Ley as his main inspiration.
In the year 2000, a political misunderstanding had the late DRC President Laurent Kabila banning him from performing his music. A move that sent the Congolese maestro to other countries, among them Zambia and recently the East African region.

Rumors of financial problems and lack of proper music management have dogged Defao. But if his performance at the Nairobi’s Egesa nightclub is anything to go by, the general could be on his way back.
Maybe he can catch a tan from the Nairobi sun while at it.
