Azimio leader Raila Odinga's diehard Nuru Okanga was among the 1.43 million candidates who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination this year.

On Monday, 32-year-old Okanga joined candidates at Mumias Muslim Primary School, Kakamega County as a private candidate.

Addressing the media shortly after he finished writing the test on Wednesday noon, Okanga says he aims to get a primary education certificate, to enable him to run for a ward representative seat in future seats.

''I am eyeing for Kholera county assembly seat in Matungu in 2027 and without a certificate I will miss it out, that is why I am here to attain my grades because for one to vie for an MCA seat, he must be cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and a KCPE certificate is a requirement needed, 'said Okanga.

He has also appreciated efforts by the Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah to hire a personal tutor in Nairobi to help him prepare for KCPE.

''I was well prepared for the exams as Wajackoyah had hired a teacher for me while in Nairobi. I thank him so much for ensuring I had all that was required during the exam period, 'he said.

He is optimistic that he will score at least 250 marks (half of the total score) and proceed to secondary school.

"I want to be a prominent person in the future, especially on the political side. I see myself as a president of this nation in the future even if I grow older, 'said Okanga.

The Azimio supporter has been in the political limelight during the anti-government demonstrations organized by the Azimio la Umoja -One Kenya coalition.

Okanga dropped out of school in form three in 2007 after the demise of his father and went to Nairobi to stay with his aunt.

As a staunch member of the Bunge la Mwananchi, he has publicly spoken against President William Ruto an act that got him arrested on March 25 alongside Calvin Gauho for allegedly organising unlawful protests.
