The Central Organisation of Trade Unions has challenged the Law Society of Kenya to find a way of handling rogue lawyers who are accredited.

In a statement, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli says he cannot withdraw his support for Brian Mwenda who was recently accused of practicing law without the required qualifications and accreditation.

"I would like to call upon the LSK President to equally convene an emergency meeting of the LSK Council and report to the general public what they have done or they are doing to handle some rogue members of the LSK who continue to swindle Kenyans," Atwoli stated

"As COTU (K), we have received countless petitions from many Kenyans who have been swindled by their lawyers of their hard-earned money without any recourse," the Secretary General added.

Atwoli expressed concerns that Kenyans have nowhere to go in the event they are swindled by their lawyers who are allegedly enjoying some protection by the Society.

The Secretary General stated he is available to provide the LSK with a list of some of their members who continue to swindle clients.

In a statement earlier, LSK President Eric Theuri called for the immediate arrest of Mwenda and his accomplices, and an investigation launched into his actions.

"We have invited the DCI to send their investigators to launch a massive manhunt and the immediate arrest of the masquerader, (Brian Mwenda) and all his accomplices," LSK noted.

The Society also says it has commissioned a review of its protocols on membership and approval, owing to this latest security breach incident.
