Two people have been shot dead by bandits in Elgeyo Marakwet county and more than 40 goats stolen.
Confirming the incident Marakwet East Sub-County Police Commander Bosita Omukolongolo said that those shot dead were healthcare workers.
"It is unfortunate to kill someone just like that," he said.
He said that police went after the bandits but were unable to catch them adding that they were working hard to restore normalcy in the area despite the rising tensions.
Titus Kandie, a Lab technician at the Kapchemuta Dispensary in Arror was killed while grazing his goats that were taken by the bandits.
The other victim, a woman who is yet to be identified was shot dead by the bandits at the Endo Mission Hospital where she worked as a nurse.
Reacting to the news Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich threatened to arm the county residents if the Kenya Defence Forces will not have acted before Monday next week.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang mourned the two health workers calling their deaths unfortunate despite a military operation in the area.
Kisang called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and the security team to end banditry saying that if they are unable, they should resign.
"Unfortunately over the last three weeks since the military deployment, we've lost more than 10 innocent lives which is totally unacceptable," he wrote on his Facebook account.
Elgeyo Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen called on Kindiki to rein on the bandits. "Kithure Kindiki stop this madness in Kerio Valley! This is too much," he wrote on Facebook.
Keiyo South MP Gideon Kimaiyo also condemned the attack, "When is enough is enough," he wrote on Facebook while calling on the resignation of Kindiki and the Inspector General of police.
