The High Court has nullified the August 9, 2022 election of Lagdera Member of Parliament (MP) Abdikadir Hussein.

Hussein, who ran on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party ticket, got 5,939 votes to defeat Abdiqani Zeitun of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party.

Mohamed Hire of the Kenya African Union (KANU) Party came third with 3,277 votes.

The first runner-up, Abdiqani, filed a suit at the High Court, challenging Hussein's victory, citing electoral malpractice.

On Friday, March 3, the High Court ruled that there were elements of irregularities in the parliamentary election, and directed that a re-election be held on a date to be decided upon by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
