Woman charged with spiking man’s drink in Nyali to be released on Sh3m bond

A 24-year-old woman on Monday denied stealing Sh1.6 million and spiking a man's drink at an entertainment joint in Nyali, Mombasa.

Beatrice Mueni was arraigned at Shanzu Law Courts and charged with administering a stupefying drug to Richard Wanyonyi, stealing his mobile phone and Sh1, 604, 212 from his bank account.

Mueni who appeared before Resident Magistrate Yusuf Shikanda denied the charges and was released on a Sh3 million bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh1 million.

“The accused shall be released on a bond of Sh3 million with a similar surety or a cash bail of Sh1 million,” said Shikanda.

Mueni is alleged to have administered the substance to Wanyonyi, a bank employee, while they were hanging out at a club in Nyali on September 8.

The magistrate ruled Mueni has the right to seek legal counsel to represent her after she appeared in court without a lawyer.

According to police two more suspects who were in the company of Mueni are still at-large.

The case is scheduled for mention of December 21 2020.

Victim’s account

Wanyonyi told police that Mueni spiked his drink with an unknown drug.

He said he started experiencing difficulty in breathing before he became unconsciousness.

“It was after I became unconscious that Mueni stole my phone and managed to transfer Sh1.6 million from my NCBA account, said Wanyonyi.

Most bank managers have big money transfer limits.

The detectives yesterday said they were yet to establish how the woman and his accomplices knew Wanyonyi’s bank account details.

Nyali Sub County Deputy Police Boss Ibrahim Daffala said the 24 –year old suspect was arrested at Signature Club off Kenyatta Avenue.

“The CCTV footage retrieved from the club captured the suspect and the complainant seated together. Two of his accomplices are still at large,’’ Daffala said on phone.

Investigations

According to police investigations, Mueni is reported to have used part of the loot to purchase land in Muranga County.

Detectives grilling Mueni, told Standard Digital that she paid for the land in two instalments of Sh200, 000 and Sh300, 000 to a landowner in Gichugu Constituency.

"She told us that she shared the loot with two other accomplices who are still at large," said detectives involved with the case.

The officer said the suspects used the remaining to pay their rent in Mombasa and the rest to party in different high-end clubs in Mombasa and Kilifi.

Similar cases

Mueni will be paraded for identification by victims of such crime.

Police say at least two cases are reported every week of people drugged and robbed in Mombasa.

Mueni was arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Nyali area after being on the run for several weeks.

Police said that she is part of the gang of women behind rising cases where people are drugged and robbed in Mombasa and Kilifi.
