ODM leader Raila Odinga eulogises Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso at the Lee Funeral Home.

Political leaders have been sending their condolences to the family and friends of Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso who has died after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

The 58-year-old governor died on Monday while undergoing treatment at The  Nairobi Hospital.

Many took to social media to share their condolences describing Laboso as “the iron fist lady of Kalenjin politics”.

Raila Odinga said, "Joyce Laboso's death is a blow to our system of devolved government. She was a dedicated public servant."

He went on, "...when I recently visited her in hospital in London, I was encouraged that she was on the path to full recovery. Rest in Peace."

Wajir Woman Rep Fatuma Gedi sent her, "Condolences to the family, friends and great people of Bomet following the loss of Governor Dr Joyce Laboso. It’s such a sad day, particularly for women leaders who lost a great friend and one of the three female governors in Kenya."

Lawyer Prof Ojienda Tom said, "It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Hon. Dr. Joyce Laboso. A great woman, an inspiration to many women across Kenya, an embodiment of vision and courage. My deepest sympathy to the family, friends, the people of Bomet County and Kenya at large. #RIP.

Euolgising Governor Laboso, Deputy President William Ruto, who was among the first leaders at Lee Funeral Home where the governor died after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga eulogised Laboso as a visionary leader. She was the deputy chairperson of the Lake Region Economic Bloc who had close interests of her people at heart, he said.

"From her earlier days as a legislator, Dr Laboso's vibrant and aggressive nature propelled her against all odds to be among the first female governors."
