Were 'bouncers' hired to help eject student leaders from Daystar University?

Daystar University Student Association (DUSA) officials from both Athi River and town campuses were recently suspended through a memo authored and signed by professor George Khroda, the chair Daystar University Council.

“Having examined the implication of this statement (by DUSA, SSADU and DUGSA requesting that the findings of the forensic financial report carried out on 15 February be released) on the well being of Daystar University in the context of the Daystar University charter, statutes and the university act 2016 and the powers vested on the university council and my office,” read part of the memo that saw ten bouncers forcefully evict DUSA officials from the university premises on the 9th of April.

“Apparently, the security manager town campus, ‘outsourced’ bouncers who forcibly ejected student body leaders from the campus premises,” said a student leader on condition of anonymity. Adding: “I gave up on Daystar,” added a student who went on to tell Campus Vibe that the university administration does not listen to of students’ views

“If students and members of staff can ask for a mere audit report and the university council unleashes punitive wrath on them, then there is a problem,’ complained another student.

Students in fear of being punished by the student also told Campus Vibe that the management is trying to cover up a financial scam so huge that when unearthed can crush the Christian based institution. ‘If the council can go on to humiliate student leaders and senior staff than have the audit report released, then what the university management is hiding is dirty,’ added a student leader.

On Monday, a student leader by the name Arnold Bazenge was ‘captured’ in the Library by five of the bouncers and dragged outside, the bouncers demanded Bazenge to tell them where other student leaders were hiding. In a video circulating on social media, Bazenge is seen struggling to free himself from the bouncers.

The junior secretary general was thrown out of the premises before other students joined and retaliated. ‘The five bouncers disappeared into the crowd,’ a source told the Nairobian. Besides officials of the Daystar University Student Association, others officials who were suspended by professor George Khroda were officials of the Senior Staff Association of Daystar University (SSADU) and the Daystar University General Staff Association (DUGA).

The student leaders have accused the management of engaging in rogue financial deals, accusations the university has denied — and continues to fight.
