Multimedia University comrades are enraged by the refusal by the varsity administration to give out the school bus to enable them attend the burial of their fallen comrade in Isbania, Mara Tanzania. “Benjamin Mkapa alikuwa mtu wa watu. He had many friends. Both as a drama member and a comrade. I smell foul play when the bus is released for use when the relative of a stuff member passes away and the same bus is denied for use when a student dies,’ said Talo Harrison, Multimedia University secretary general.
Our attempts to get the dean of students comment on the matter hit the wall after our phone calls went unanswered.
However, the university’s president Simeon Maranga response was that the policies governing student welfare had been changed as such only five students can be sponsored by the university to attend a funeral of their own and no bus is given out. ‘When Cynthia, a first-year student perished from a road accident, the administration sent a van full of students. This policy should be repealed. When a student dies, the least the university should do is give out one bus for transport,’ added Simeon Maranga.
Nonetheless, the comrades were undeterred and sort alternative, costly means to Isebania to send off their brother.
