The third edition of Watamu Rugby Festivals kicks off this weekend in Watamu, Kilifi County.

The tourney will begin of Friday July 29 with the floodlit games at Papa Remo Beach then continue on Saturday and Sunday.

Tournament Director Kennedy Wasonga popularly known as Oslo described this year’s festivals as an action packed tournament with teams from al over Kenya.

“We will play the games for a period of three days at Papa Remo Beach,” he said.

“The first game will be played at night under floodlights, with the weekend matches being played during the day. Beach rugby is quickly gaining traction in Kenya and to many players, it’s an opportunity to prove their worth at the five-a-side tourney. Everything is in place. We ask our fans from across the Coastal region to come and enjoy rugby,” said Oslo.

Over 15 teams have confirmed participation in the Five-a-side Watamu Beach Rugby games.

The teams include Kabras Sugar from Kakamega, Mwamba RFC, Masaku RFC, USIU, Strathmore Leos, Malindi RFC, Mombasa RFC, South Coast Pirates, Likoni Bullocks, Likoni RFC, Pwani Sharks , Kilifi , Watamu RFC, Blue Marlins, Taita Socks and Marines, a team from the Technical University of Mombasa.
