Kenyans are tired of the toxic politics exhibited by some leaders.
We all have equitable entitlement to the welfare of the nation despite our glaring social gaps. political parties in the United States have been doing nominations ahead of the November elections. I wish to borrow a leaf from the way they separate their politics from the well being of the state.
In 2008, when it was clear that he would be the Democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama famously declared that, if elected, he would want "a team of rivals" in his Cabinet.
"I don't want to have people who just agree with me. I want people who are continually pushing me out of my comfort zone," he said. He went ahead and appointed Hillary Clinton and later John Kerry in his Government while Joe Biden was his vice president, all his political rivals at one point or another. Back home, we are losing mega business due to our unpredictable toxic politics and runaway corruption.
When John F Kennedy won a close election against Nixon, in 1960 he put Republicans such as Douglas Dillon at Treasury and Robert McNamara at Defence to lend an air of bipartisan authority and competence. This is what we need as a country, rising above our differences to protect the country and its people.
