Ruto's supporters now turn heat on rebel MPs after ICC victory

A few days after the International Criminal Court (ICC) set Deputy President William Ruto free; Jubilee leaders have ventured into the South Rift to stem rebellion.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and three of his colleagues held meetings in Kuresoi South and Emurua Dikirr constituencies where they asked residents to reject their rebel MPs.

MPs Zakayo Cheruiyot (Kuresoi South) and Johanna Ngeno (Emurua Dikirr) are among perceived rebel MPs from the region. On Friday, Murkomen and senators Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), Liza Chelule and Naisula Lesuuda (Nominated) told a fundraiser in Kuresoi South to reject rebel MPs and rally behind the DP.

Murkomen said now that the ICC cases are over, their next move was to consolidate Ruto’s political base in the Rift Valley.

Lesuuda said the door was still open for the rebel URP leaders whom she said risk losing their seats in 2017.

“Our game plan is one - to ensure that President Uhuru Kenyatta gets his second term. Those opposing the DP should start rethinking their position or start packing,” she said.

In Emurua Dikirr, the senators were joined by Narok Governor Samuel Ole Tunai, his Deputy Everlyn Aruasa and Woman Representative Soipan Kudate in castigating Ng’eno and other rebel MPs.
