Former President Daniel arap Moi

Former President Daniel arap Moi has refuted reports that he hosted Kalenjin elders at his Kabarak home over political competition between Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and Deputy President William Ruto.

Moi said the story carried by Daily Nation was false as he was not in Kabarak where the purported meeting was reported to have taken place on Monday.

"I did not meet Kalenjin elders last Monday at my Kabarak home as claimed by today's Daily Nation newspaper. The day I am purported to have hosted the elders I was in Nairobi," he said.

The former President while questioning the motive of the story called on journalists to always be truthful in their reporting and demanded for an apology from the media house.

"Journalists must maintain code of ethics of upholding the truth and verifying information. The Daily Nation must apologize for this fabrication," he said in a statement by his press secretary Lee Njiru.

At the same time, West Pokot Senator Prof. John Lonyangapuo denied speaking to any reporter from the media house concerning the purported meeting.

Lonyangapuo said he was not aware of any meeting that took place and called on the media house to always verify what they report.

"I am perturbed that I have been quoted over a fabricated story. It is totally unprofessional and I am demanding an apology from the paper," he said.

"I do not know where and who the reporter spoke and purporting to be me," he added.
