Police in Kabarnet, Baringo county are holding seven college students after they produced fake Sh4,000 to pay for alcoholic drinks in a club in the town.
The seven students who had gone on a drinking spree on Sunday night were arrested after a cashier in the bars they had gone to drink realised the money they had produced to settle the bill were fake.
“We arrested the seven students and recovered fake notes, they are set to appear in court anytime soon,” said Area OCPD Charles Musewe.
The incident happened just months after a man was arrested along Kabarnet-Marigat road with fake notes amounting Sh101,000 in an abandoned car.
Musewe said fake money racket is suspected to be operating between Nakuru, Eldoret and Kabarnet town and had well-connected links that deal with the distribution of the illegal money to unsuspecting citizens.
“We are questioning the students where they got the money and once we are done with investigations, we will take them to court,” said the OCPD.
