GSU commandant William Saiya has denied allegations that he had ordered his junior officers to salute his wife, who the officers claimed had to be referred to as ‘First Lady’.
Saiya further denied claims that he had allocated 20 government vehicles to his family.
“How can I do that? Where can I get all those vehicles for my family?” he asked The Nairobian.
The GSU chief was commenting on a story published in our last edition where GSU officers alleged their boss was being inconsiderate by allocating many cars to his family yet they did not have enough for patrols in the city.
The junior officers claimed their boss had allocated, among others, two Mercedes Benz, two Toyota Land Cruisers, a Toyota Prado, a Passat, with civilian registration, and a Land Rover Discovery to his ‘First Lady’.
Their problems with their boss had pushed them to coin the term ‘General Suffering Unit’ in reference to the frustration with the force, the most feared in Kenya.
Saiya said he was aware the claims were from some disgruntled servicemen.
“This is a disciplined force and you cannot expect everyone to be happy,” he said.
